"A total of eight ISIL rebels were killed after the government forces from the ground and air targeted their hideouts in Achid district on Tuesday," spokesman for provincial police, Hazrat Hussain Mashirqwal, said Wednesday.
A cache of arms and ammunitions belonging to the hardliner IS group has also been destroyed, the official added, saying the security forces would continue to pursue the insurgents elsewhere in the province.
Militants loyal to the Islamic State group who are active in parts of the eastern Nangarhar province are yet to make comment.
