On the fourth day of World Para Athletics Championships at Olympic Stadium of London, Hashemieh Motaghian competed in threw the javelin in F56 Class for 20 meters and 66 centimeters to claim the silver medal and improve her personal best by 14 centimeters.
Representative of Latvia snatched the title in the same category by throwing as long as 27.07 meters and breaking the world record. The bronze medal went to an athlete from Germany who settled 20 meters and 57 centimeters.
The silver trophy by Motaghian marked Iran’s seven medal so far in the prestigious international extravaganza. The 20-strong outfit of Iranian athletes had previously collected six medals including four silver and two bronzes.
Javad Hardani, Mohsen Kaedi and Mehran Nekuei in shot put as well as Ali Mohammadyari in discus throw managed to finish vice-champions while Mohsen Majidi in discus throw and Ali Asghar Javanmardi in shot put stood on the third podium.
The 2017 World Para Athletics Championships is a track and field meet for athletes with disabilities, governed by the International Paralympic Committee, being held at Olympic Stadium in London from 14 to 23 July 2017. It is the 8th edition of the event, formerly known as the IPC Athletics World Championship prior to 2017, and will feature 213 medal events.
They will precede the 2017 IAAF World Championships also being held in London. It is the first time that a single city is hosting both the IAAF and IPC athletics championships in parallel.
