“The great victory in Mosul was achieved thanks to the leadership of top Shia clerics, prudence of the Iraqi government and bravery of the country’s army and popular forces,” Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said in his congratulatory messages to Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi and distinguished Marja Grand Ayatollah Sistani.
Shamkhani went on to add, “it has been once again proved that the use of Iraq’s domestic capacities was a successful and reliable experience in the fight against terrorism.”
“Despite the fact that certain powers and regional states wished to see the long-term presence of contained terrorism in Iraq, today the restoration of security to Mosul thanks to reliance on national capabilities and will have brought happiness to the Iraqi nation,” he added.
Shamkhani noted the lingering roots of terror-nurturing ideology in the region and the abuse of the youth’s sentiments and motivations by intelligence services of extra-regional countries and leaders of some regional states, adding “under such circumstances, it is imperative to pay more attention to cultural and intellectual confrontation with terrorism than a military and security one.”
Shamkhani further voiced Iran’s readiness to lend its continuous support to the people and government of Iraq for restoring the country’s critical infrastructures and delivering humanitarian aid to the displaced and war-affected people.
