TEHRAN, Jun. 14 (MNA) – An IRISL official said currently no restrictions exist on providing international insurance coverage for Iranian vessels.

Aliakbar Ghonji, Managing Director of Bulk Carrier Division of Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), noted that all Iranian ships were under full insurance coverage adding “insurance plays a significant role in development of maritime transport.”

The well-equipped container and bulk fleets of IRISL have always been at the forefront of the country’s economy during imposed war and sanction years,” he continued.

The official recalled that maritime transport was the least costly method of transportation in the world; “presently, sea tackles 90% of global goods transport.”

Ghonji outlined ‘affordability’ and ‘security’ as two major features of sea transport and went on to enumerate other advantages of the industry including economic profits, job creation, dynamicity of domestic industry, training efficient human resources among the others.

He said transportation was a key element in economic development underlining that “economic effects of transport can be observed in numerous activities such as agriculture and services.”

At another part of his remarks, the IRISL official touched upon deployment of Iran’s first wheat consignment to Oman explaining “the 30-thousand-ton cargo was dispatched to the Persian Gulf littoral state by the fleet of IRISL Bulk Carrier Division.”

The official recalled that, in addition to wheat, the company was ready to carry out all Iranian products to global markets.
