TEHRAN, May 11 (MNA) – Chinese ambassador to Tehran in a meeting with Amir-Abdollahian said China believes US and North Korea need to sit down for direct talks in order to relieve the tension and resolve conflicts.

Iranian Parliament's General Director for International Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian held talks with Chinese Ambassador to Tehran Pang Sen on Wednesday, where the two discussed bilateral ties and conferred on the current developments in the region.

During the meeting, Amir-Abdollahian stressed that Astana talks on Syrian settlement were moving ‘forward’, but voiced his concern about the possibility of a break of the nation-wide ceasefire in Syria due to the opposition of terrorists to establishment of peace.

“Regional developments have proved that wrong military and security approaches are not helpful for resolution of the complex problems in the region. The crises in Bahrain, Syria and Yemen all need a political solution,” the Iranian official stressed.

Amir-Abdollahian further discussed the developments in Yemen, and dismissed Saudi Arabia’s claim regarding Iranian arms in Yemen as completely baseless; “The Saudi regime under the shadow of invading Yemen has helped the escalation of terrorism in the region, and international waters are now under serious threat from terrorist groups stationed in south of Yemen,” he added.

The Chinese ambassador, for his part, expressed his satisfaction over common positions shared by China and Iran on various regional and international issues.

He also deemed the election of the new South Korean president a positive step toward the resolution of tensions between the two Koreas.

“China is willing to play its positive role in settling the conflict between the two Koreas,” he stressed.
