TEHRAN, Apr. 09 (MNA) – Iran’s Parl. Speaker Ali Larijani said a fact-finding mission should be sent into Syria to find out how chemical weapons had been smuggled into Syria and who had been behind the attack in Syrian town of Khan Sheikhun.

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani made the remarks in today’s open session, adding “the US government attacked Syria under the pretext of the use of chemical weapons. First question is, which international organization probed into the credibility of this claim? Can we hand out punishment without first determining that the crime had been committed in the first place?”

Larijani went on to add, “during the final years of the Imposed War, we were attacked many times by various chemical weapons from Iraq’s Saddam. The weapons were given to him by Western governments and these very same major powers kept silent when Iran was under chemical attack.”

“Now can one actually believe that the US has attacked Syria in defense of human rights and international rights?,” Larijani asked rhetorically, going on to censure the US for not having allowed a fact-finding committee to be formed and investigate the issue first.

“To the best of our knowledge, the Syrian government was neither in possession nor in need of sarin gas,” he noted.

“The US approaches in this case will amount to further escalation of terrorism crisis in the region,” Larijani said, then pointing to the US claim of fighting terrorism in Afghanistan and its military aggression in Iraq under false pretexts.

Larijani then stressed, “what could the US attack on Syria actually solve? Military aggression will not end the war in Syria. This is just the beginning, not an end.”
