“Flood is a great blight that causes terrible losses to people, and delivering immediate aid to flood-affected people in southern parts of the country is a necessary task and duty,” Leader Ayatollah Khamenei said Monday in response to the critical situation in Khuzestan following the occurrence of flood, sandstorms and power outages that have severely disrupted life for the locals.
Deeming the problems ‘harrowing’ and ‘extremely devastating’ to Khuzestan’s locals, he said “officials are responsible for addressing these issues. It is a definite, immediate and constant duty of all governments to make efforts for the welfare of their people.’
Heavy rainfall and severe haze in southern city of Khuzestan have severely disrupted the power grid, causing massive power outages across the province. Iran’s National Disaster Management Organization (NDMO) has been carrying out necessary operations to fix transmission and distribution lines to bring electricty back online, while locals are waiting to be compensated for the great losses dealt to farms and corps due to flood.
