French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault made the remarks in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on Tuesday in Tehran, adding “the nuclear deal proved that diplomacy is triumphant. France is committed to the full implementation of the agreement and hopes to find ways to handle any measures that could undermine it.”
He went on to add, “Iran and France can cooperate on regional and security issues on which they share the same views.”
“It is high time that major regional countries find solutions to settle the current conflicts,” he said. “We must note that only the solutions that guarantee stability and security with respect to religious and ethnic diversity can prove effective. Military approaches do not work anymore.”
“Unilateral positions toward visa issuance under the pretext of combating terrorism is worrying,” he said. “Common sense dictates that American officials need to take steps back from this position. One must not take measures that could undermine international principles and commitments toward refugees.”
Ayrault referred to Trump’s executive order on barring nationals of seven countries including Iran from entering the US, adding “this move shows US’s blatant discrimination toward certain countries in the world. Many countries share the same view as France about the travel ban.”
