Representative of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) at International Maritime Organization (IMO) Mandana Mansourian said the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) in its 24th meeting approved Iran's membership in its advisory committee in the Asia-Pacific region.
The official, while explaining that IMSO’s Advisory Committee members are selected from four regions of America, Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific, said among the 34 countries of the Asia-Pacific region, Iran was placed in the 11th place of the quota.
She described Iran's election as the IMSO member as a good achievement for the country explaining “Iraq was also given a position in the Asia-Pacific section of IMSO and overall a total of 39 countries were selected from the four global regions.”
The International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) is the inter-governmental organization whose Primary Purpose is the oversight of certain public satellite safety and security communication services provided by mobile satellite communication systems.
Headquartered in London, IMSO also acts as the International LRIT Coordinator, appointed by IMO to ensure the operation of the international system for the Long Range Identification and Tracking of Ships (LRIT) worldwide by auditing and reviewing the performance of the system.
