Addressing a meeting at the headquarters of the Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education (SEPIE) on Thursday, the Iranian Ambassador to Spain Mohammad Hassan Fadaiefard recounted the academic system of Iran and the history of scientific cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting which was attended by senior Spanish academicians and officials of the educational system of the European country and some officials of European Commission responsible in the European Union program for education, training, youth and sport, known as the Erasmus Programme (European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students).
One of the objectives of the meeting was to review scientific cooperation between the European Union, Spain, and the Middle East with special focus on Iran.
Recounting the history and structure of higher education in Iran, Mohammad Hassan Fadaiefard touched upon the potential areas for expansion of bilateral academic ties and described the current conditions suitable for running programs of exchanging students and professors, along with interacting academic experience.
“If the Spanish are willing to have relations with one of the fast growing economies and scientific poles of the world with educated young work force, Iran is a top priority which can also serve as a reliable economic and political partner,” reiterated the Iranian envoy to Madrid, “both Iran and Spain with their old histories have always been home to great scientists and have played influentially on the culture, art, science, and civilization of the world.”
The Iranian diplomat boasted that today 22 percent of produced academic papers of Iranian students are the results of the joint endeavors with academic centers from Italy, Germany, Austria, and France who have signed many agreements to develop academic and scientific cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education (SEPIE) is an initiative of Spain’s Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport to contribute to the management, dissemination, promotion and impact studies for the new Erasmus Programme in the sphere of education and training, and the Lifelong Learning Program. It also coordinates and participates in national and international projects.
