TEHRAN, Dec. 20 (MNA) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry has issued a warning statement, urging Iranians to avoid unnecessary trips to Turkey after Monday’s terror attack on Russian ambassador to Ankara Andrey Karlov.

On Tuesday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry released a statement, advising all Iranian tourists to avoid making unnecessary trips to Turkey until further notice.

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran also announced that the country’s consulates in three Turkish cities of Istanbul, Trabzon and Erzurum will be closed on Tuesday, December 20, requesting Iranian nationals to avoid visiting these locations.

The release came after Monday’s armed assault on Russian ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov that was carried out by a 22-year-old Turkish off-duty police officer named Mevlut Mert Altintas at the opening of the "Russia through Turks' eyes" photo exhibition.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Zarif is in Moscow to hold talks with his Russian and Turkish counterparts on the Syrian situation following the recent liberation of the strategic city of Aleppo.
