The first round of the competition will host world’s stair climbers in collaboration with Iran Sport For All Federation.
International stair climbers will compete on the 1,693 steps of Milad Tower to honor the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), on December 17.
Iranian stair climbers ran up the 1,693 steps of Milad Tower during the second national competition of stair climbing, on September 23, and the top three athletes were qualified to participate in international competitions.
The winner of the last round of national competition of stair climbing, hit the top of the Milad Tower within 11 minutes and 44 seconds.
National class athletes from running and cycling fields regularly compete in such events and some are specialized in stair climbing races only.
The upcoming international event will be attended by participants from Australia, Germany, Austria, Ghana, Nigeria, Philippines, Senegal, Syria, Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
Stair climbing is one of the most grueling sports, requiring competitors to move their entire body weight vertically. Every year several stair climbing races are held around the world with the competitors running up the stairs of some of the tallest buildings and towers in the world.
