TEHRAN, Dec. 12 (MNA) – SNSC secretary has said defeating Takfirists in Iraq proved the necessity of incorporating the grassroots of people in defense of the country.

Ali Shamkhani received Sayyed Ammar al-Hakim, Leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq on Monday evening where they discussed latest developments in Iraq, with Mr. Hakim presenting a report of his fellow party in organizing Shia militia which contributed to battle against ISIL.

Shamkhani hailed the passing into the law of the Popular Mobilization Forces and thus the recognition the government lavished upon it as the deserved prestige given to the sons of the country which had signed the covenant with their blood to defend the homeland; “apart from its military brilliance, defeating Takfirists provides testament to the feat Iraqi government achieved in handling the most severe security threat; in Mosul, all ethnic groups of Shia, Sunni, Assyrian, Yazidi, and Turkoman affiliations contributed to the war, manifesting a significant level of coordination under the Iraqi single flag,” Shamkhani added.

He also welcomed coordination of Shia different groups in a national unity framework to work with other Iraqi groups to protect a united Iraq; “all decentering forces directed from outside the country should be aborted through convergence of all Iraqi parties in a more robust political process,” he suggested.

Mr. Hakim, for his part, expressed gratitude for Iran’s positions of providing support for fighting terrorism; “common religious feelings and a political strong will open a unique window for Iranian and Iraqi cooperation; Shias in Iraq had come to a level of coordination where the capacity to work with other political groups is fostered; today, Iraq requires political unity and territorial integrity; we believe that through incorporating into action all national capabilities and effective forces will bring about stability and economic as well as social development of the country,” he concluded.
