TEHRAN, Nov. 27 (MNA) – Iran's Zohreh Barzegar has managed to scoop a gold medal at the 2016 AFK U21 Championships underway in Indonesia.

The third and final day of the 15th Asian Karate Federation (AKF) Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships kicked off in the Indonesian city of Makassar where Iranian fighters bagged one gold and one bronze during the morning events. 

Iran's world gold medalist Zohreh Barzegar, who was competing at the –55kg weight category in Under-21 age group, managed to thrash rivals from Jordan, Japan, Thailand and China Taipei before standing on top of the podium. 

Also in Men's division, Ali Meskini of Iran overcame karate practitioners from Iraq and China at the minus 55-kilogram weight group though he later conceded a defeat against a Saudi contestant. Meanwhile, he was awarded the Bronze medal in the second chance group given the absence of his Nepali rival. 

Iran's other female representative on the final day of the sportive event was Faezeh Chizari (-50kg) who lost to an opponent form the UAE and failed to receive medals. Similarly, Amir Reza Mirzaei missed his chances by losing to Saudi and Japanese karate fighters though he had earlier subdued Macauan and Tajik contestants. 

So far into the Asian tournament, Iran's karate squad has secured four gold trophies by Arash Alinejad, Mohammadreza Gilanpour, Mobina Heidari and Navid Mohammadi. Also, Fatemeh Sadeghi, Leila Borjali and Atousa Rezaei have earned three silver medals. Furthermore, a total of 13 bronze medals have been added to the tally of Iran's medals by Male and Female Teams Kata, Majid Nikuhemmat, Hamidreza Nejati, Mojtaba Mohammadi, Mahdi Ghararizadeh, Yeganeh Shahpari, Shaghayegh Vahedi, Hossein Salehipour, Morteza Nemati, Mehrdad Mostahsan, Sarah Bahmanyar and Amir Reza Mirzaei. 

Attended by 400 karate fighters from 24 countries, the 15th AKF Cadet, Junior & U-21 Championship 2016 kicked off on November 21 in Makassar, Indonesia and will conclude today on 27th November
