TEHRAN, Nov. 21 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held talks with African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security, Smail Chergui, in Tehran on Monday.

During the meeting, the two sides conferred on various fields for cooperation, common challenges particularly with regards to security, terrorism, extremism, piracy, combating drug trafficking, peacekeeping missions, as well as exchanging experiences in these areas.

The Peace and Security Council (PSC) is the standing organ of the AU for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts.  It aims to promote peace, security and stability in Africa, and has 15 members which are elected by the AU Executive Council and endorsed by the Assembly at its next session.
