The trilateral meeting is attended by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Russian FM Sergei Lavrov, and Syrian counterpart Walid al-Muallem. The three diplomats will review their respective countries’ positions in regard to regional developments and seek further coordination in combating terrorism in Syria.
The Russian foreign minister, at the start of the meeting, said the main topic of negotiations between the three sides as a united anti-terrorism front is a decisive and efficient confrontation with terrorism, particularly in Syria.
He also maintained that the Friday talks will include humanitarian aid and finding ways to stop the arming and reinforcement of terrorists.
The Iranian senior diplomat underscored the common stances of Iran and Russia with Syria in combating terrorism and finding a political solution to the country’s current crisis. Zarif also stressed the need for putting a stop to foreign support for Takfiri groups.
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, who arrived in Moscow today for a three-day visit aimed at taking part in the trilateral as well as bilateral meetings, highlighted the significance of continuing the fight against terrorism in his country.
Prior to the trilateral meeting, Zarif held a separate meeting with Lavrov to discuss Tehran-Moscow relations, as well as the situation in Iraq.
