Ali Akbar Velayati was meeting with Secretary of State at the Swiss Foreign Ministry Yves Rossier on Wednesday. He welcomed Swiss delegation to Iran and believed bilateral ties had ample opportunities and grounds for improvement; “Iran, as an influential country in the region, provides huge capacities for the EU in its efforts to manage and solve crises; Switzerland, very interested in playing a part in dealing with crises would exploit Iran’s capacities as well as in improving ties,” Velayati told Rossier.
On terrorism, head of Strategic Research Center emphasized that terrorism and extremism would not remain limited to within the borders of Iraq and Syria and would well extend to EU borders; “Takfirism, extremism, and their promoters seek to destabilize the region and disintegrate the region in line with their petty short-term sectarian interests, and will not definitely get satisfied with devastating the region and soon will seek other favorable grounds like the EU, a thing the world as well as the EU should think over carefully to find effective measures to confront its pernicious effects,” Velayati told the meeting.
Mr. Rossier for his part believed that there should be a concord among the EU countries to facilitate interaction with Iran, since the country historically provided excellent opportunities for the EU; he highlighted Iran’s leading role in solving key crises in the region, asserting that in Iraq and Syria, stability would triumph with Iran’s constructive contribution.
