TEHRAN, Oct. 13 (MNA) – Foreign ministry spokesperson has said Nigerian government is responsible for providing security of Shia procession of Ashura on Wednesday.

Bahram Ghasemi told reporters on Thursday that Nigerian government was to be blamed for any invasion by country’s army on procession of mourners who marked the anniversary of Ashoura in some cities.

There has been some reports that the Army had systematically targeted Shia Muslims lead by Sheikh Zakzaky, the arrested leader of the IMN (Islamic Movement of Nigeria). In December 2015, the Army had an onslaught to Baghiyatollah center which sought to uproot the movement altogether.

Ghasemi condemned the reported attacks on the procession of mourners and asserted that Nigerian government was to be blamed for a possible damage on mourners. “The government should address the issue immediately to bring to the court the culprit circles including the Army,” he emphasized.
