The European Union has published a document in which it has delineated the prospect for relations with the post-sanctions Iran, emphasizing “what the EU and Iran need is a strategic and structured dialogue.”
When asked to evaluate the document, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said although a number of promising points exist in the document which can help open new horizons in and expand relations between Iran and the European Union, its depiction of the situation of human rights in Iran does not comply with the existing reality for being affected by the negative propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
A reporter noted that EU claims against Iran are raised while Iran has repeatedly rejected them and has expressed readiness to launch relevant talks with Europe. In response to his question on prospects of human rights dialogues between Iran and the EU, Ghasemi said “although human rights talks will be held between Iran and the European Union in near future, such positions are questionable and counterproductive as they raise suspicion on interference in Iran’s internal affairs rather than promoting the human rights discourse.
Iran’s FM spokesman further underlined that no exact time have been defined for the talks between Iran and the EU.
In response to another question on how the negative points in the resolution might affect relations between the two sides in the future, the official said the resolution, though being advisory, needs to be more realistic; “we expect the representatives of the European Union and members of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament to deal with these issues with a more realism and avoid false and unrealistic matters induced by anti-Iranian circles.”
