TEHRAN, Oct. 04 (MNA) – Head of the Center for Strategic Research Ali Akbar Velayati stressed enemies try to undermine Iran-Iraq deep ties originating from cultural and historical commonalities.

Speaking in a meeting with Iraqi Ambassador to Iran Rajeh Al-Mousavi on Monday, Velayati touched upon bilateral issues, international and regional cooperation and the latest developments.

Iranian and Iraqi nations will conquer their enemies and conspirators, whose war is much more ideological and cultural, Velayati noted.

The Iraqi envoy, for his part, called current relations between the two countries a historic opportunity.

He pointed to the position of religious authority in the two countries, which is very valuable, important and impactful.

"The secret of power of our people is their adherence to Islam and obedience to religious authority," he noted.

Rajeh Al-Mousavi said that if Iran had not helped Iraq against ISIL terrorist group, it would have seized not only Iraq but also the whole region.
