Syrian Parliament Speaker Hadiya Khalaf Abbas made the remark in a joint press conference with her Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani on Monday in Tehran.
She thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for its political and military support in the fight against terrorism in Syria, stressing that without Iran’s support, Syrian government and nation could not have stood against terrorism.
“We do not want any help from our other neighbors, that is Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey,” she said. “If they cannot help us, we want them to at least stop hurting us.”
Khalaf Abbas deemed her meeting with Iranian parliament speaker ‘fruitful’, adding “we discussed important topics on combating terrorism, a war that has been imposed on us for over five years and by more than 80 countries, and against which Syria has taken measures from various fronts.”
“Syria had beautiful civilization, culture, and monuments that have been destroyed during five years of war,” she lamented.
Khalaf Abbas then referred to the recent US airstrike on a Syrian army base which killed at least 60 troops and wounded 100 others, adding “Americans claim that it was a mistaken attack, but what kind of mistaken airstrike lasts for 45 minutes? Of course, we have other evidence that proves US has conducted purposeful moves in support of terrorism.”
The Syrian official maintained that the recent victories achieved in the vicinity of Aleppo have caused the US to intensify its measures against Syria.
She further noted the political and military efforts by the Syrian government in order to settle the country’s crisis, adding “we have sovereignty and a president who has been elected and is loved by the Syrian nation. Six years of his perseverance is a testament to that.”
“Syria’s fate is in the hands of the Syrian nation,” she stressed.
