Iran’s Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with Algerian Parliament Speaker Abdul Qadir bin Saleh on Sunday and underlined the need for cooperation among regional states for solving regional and international issues.
He appreciated independence and resistance of the Algerian nation noting the Algerian Revolution and the Islamic Revolution remain as two great and influential movements in the region both enjoying Islamic people; “Algerian and Iranian nations attained victory by fighting against internal and external colonialism, foreign domination and tyranny.”
"Numerous venues exist for boosting cooperation between Tehran and Algiers asserting “these capacities need to be exploited to promote bilateral ties in various economic, cultural and political fields as well as to bring stability to the region," the Iranian President said at the meeting which was held on the sidelines of NAM summit in Venezuela.
Rouhani underscored the need for strengthening ties in various banking, industrial, scientific and tourism areas in addition to closer collaboration between private sectors of both sides in the post-JCPOA era; “relations between the two countries should be expanded and deepened in all fields and parliaments can play an important role in this area.”
He also referred to efforts to reach a positive outcome at the forthcoming OPEC meeting in Algeria and emphasized the need to bring about stability to the oil market by reaching reasonable price levels; “I hope cooperation and close interaction will lead to effective steps in meeting collective interest of all members," he continued.
Algerian Parliament Speaker Abdul Qadir bin Saleh, for his part, voiced his countries his country's willingness to promote mutual cooperation and counter challenges in the region and world.
The official, while pointing to insecurity in North Africa and the Middle East, said regional issues need to be resolved by regional nations and without foreign intervention.
He further referred to the Algiers oil meeting in late September highlighting that Iran could play a vital role in bringing balance to the oil market.
