The bank payment Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the capital city of Caracas between central banks of Iran and Venezuela in a ceremony attended by the Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, visiting Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif in addition to a number of ministers and high-ranking officials of the South American country.
The agreement was signed by Director General of the International Affairs Department at the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Hossein Yaghoubi Miab as well as José Salamat Khan as a member of the Board of the Central Bank of Venezuela (CBV).
The newly-sealed MoU seeks to establish a bank payment mechanism to facilitate banking, trade and economic transactions between the two sides.
Iran’s Zarif, heading a 120-strong politico-economic delegation, was welcomed by Iranian ambassador to Venezuela and the officials of the Venezuela on Saturday.
The Iranian delegation had already travelled to Cuba, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Chile and Bolivia before landing in Venezuela as the last leg of a six-nation LatAm tour.
Zarif and his accompanying delegation are scheduled to return to Iran Today.
