Rouhani held talks with Cuban Vice President and Special Envoy of the President of Cuba Ricardo Cabrisas, who submitted Raul Castro’s message to Iranian president on Saturday.
Extending gratitude to his Cuban counterpart for his kind message, Rouhani attached high importance to the development and deepening of relations with Cuba as one of the friend countries of Iran in Latin America.
He said the cultural commonalities between the two revolutionary nations have provided the grounds for close ties to support each other’s positions in international communities.
“Pursuit of imposing economic sanctions by Washington against the world's sovereign states is wrong and in vain,” he noted, adding “in trade and economic system of the world the countries must be able to hold free trade and economic ties with each other, within the framework of international law."
Cabrisas, for his part, said according to President Castro’s letter, Havana looks for the expansion of all-out ties with Tehran as well as the removal of obstacles on the way of deepening the relations between the two countries.
He underlined that the Cuban government considers Iran’s success in nuclear negotiations and the implementation of JCPOA as a great victory for the Islamic Republic, Iranian government and nation, as well as all dependent states in the world.
Cabrisas deemed Iran-Cuba bilateral ties as strong, adding the two countries must develop and enhance their relations in cultural and economic fields as well. “Cuba is prepared to provide the grounds for active participation of Iranian industry.”
Underlining that re-establishment of US-Cuba ties is not the normalization of relations, Cuban VP said the resumption of ties indicates a victory for Cuban people who stood against Washington's wrong Anti-Cuba policies for 50 years.
