“Iran’s Foreign Minister was in phone dialogue with me from the very early moments of the coup, and voiced the firm stance of Iran’s government beside the legal government of Turkey against the coupists,” said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, at the joint presser of his meeting with Mr. Zarif on Friday in Ankara.
“Today I am hosting my dear brother, Mr. Zarif, and I warmly welcome him. While the night of the coup I was awake till the dawn and Mr. Zarif accompanied us. He called me 5 times till the morning and we have had several phone dialogues since then,” Çavuşoğlu praised the support offered by his Iranian counterpart.
The Turkish diplomat reminded that Mr. Zarif was scheduled to visit Ankara on July 17, which was postponed after the failed coup attempt of July 15. Çavuşoğlu notified that his Iranian counterpart gave him the allowance to decide over the next fixture according to the readiness of the Turkish.
“We talked about different issues, especially on political relation,” recounted the Turkish FM, “In fact, we had a fruitful year of cooperation with numerous meetings and continuous dialogues.”
He asserted that Ali Larijani, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament is speculated to pay an official visit to Turkey while the Turkish Economy Minister, Nihat Zeybekci, is scheduled to visit Tehran.
