TEHRAN, Jul. 30 (MNA) – A shipping line for civil and commercial purposes has been opened between Iran’s Qeshm island and Oman.

Deputy Head of Qeshm Free Zone Organization Farzin Haghdel made the announcement asserting “the issue had been pursued since 2011 as several consultations with domestic and foreign companies were held before an Omani firm, who possesses one of the world’s most modern and up-to-date vessels, voiced readiness to establish the line.”

The official pointed to arrival of Omani tourists, officials and reporters adding “however, the new line would mainly benefit businessmen who will enjoy direct, fast, hassle-free and legal entry of goods to Iran.”

Haghdel, while reiterating that Iranian businessmen would henceforth be able to import goods with more confidence and pace, said “Qeshm island marks the nearest point to Oman in the northern Persian Gulf as Qeshm-Muscat and Qeshm-Sohar will be launched in near future."

He underlined that visa facilitation on both sides is being pursued as an important goal maintaining citizens of Qeshm and Oman would be able to travel in their vehicles thanks to the vessels dedicated to the new shipping line.

“People in Oman and Qeshm have long had family and business ties while the established passenger line can facilitate these interactions,” deputy head of Qeshm Free Zone Organization continued.

Emphasizing on the favorable attitude of Iran’s Foreign Ministry towards diplomatic ties with Oman, Haghdel underscored “the second group of Omani tourists will soon arrive in the Iranian island.”

Concluding his remarks, the official highlighted that vessels commuting in the newly-opened shipping line are capable of simultaneous carrying of cargo and passengers.
