TEHRAN, Jul. 26 (MNA) – Iran's Ambassador to Tokyo Reza Nazarahari said Japanese PM Shinzo Abe’s visit to Tehran is still on the agenda and will be made in due time.

The Iranian ambassador made the comment on Tuesday in response to the news released by certain Japanese media outlets on the cancelation of Prime Minister Abe’s visit to Tehran on 27-28 August, 2016; “Abe’s visit to Iran is still on the agenda, and given the growing trend of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, it will be made in due time,” he added.

He went on to add that the approximate date of the visit has been merely media speculation and so far, no official institution in Japan has announced an exact date.

"Once the date is finalized, it will be announced," he said.

Some Japanese media outlets today reported that Shinzo Abe’s visit to Tehran in late August has been canceled due to the upcoming US presidential elections.

Shinzo Abe will be the first Japanese prime minister to visit the Islamic Republic in 38 years. His visit is said to aim at expanding economic and political interactions with Tehran following the implementation of Iran’s nuclear deal with the 5+1 group of countries.
