TEHRAN, Jul. 23 (MNA) –  Iran’s national squad thrashed Indonesia to top Group B of FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship underway in Tehran.

The 24th edition of FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship began on Friday July 22 in the Iranian capital of Tehran with attendance of 12 teams.

During the opening fixture of the tournament, Lebanon hammered Kazakhstan while the Philippines conceded a defeat against Taiwan in the last showdown of the first day.

In the meantime, Iranian basketball players faced Indonesian rivals following the opening ceremony held on Friday evening.

Iran obtained a 106-40 victory over Indonesia to finish the first day of the sportive event atop Group B.

Meanwhile, China, India, South Korea managed to prevail over Iraq, Thailand and Japan, respectively.

Accordingly, title-holder China and Iran are so far enjoying the top positions in Group A and B of FIBA Asia U18 Championship.

The Iranian outfit is scheduled to meet Kazakh rivals today at 05:00 p.m. Tehran local time.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in Tehran, Iran on July 22-31, 2016 while only the top three teams will qualify and will represent FIBA Asia the 2017 FIBA Under-19 World Championship in Egypt.
