TEHRAN, Jul. 20 (MNA) – National Iranian men's junior handball team has left for Jordan to participate in 2016 Asian Men's Junior Handball Championship.

Iran’s junior handball squad departed Tehran for Amman on Tuesday evening in order to compete at the 15th Asian Men’s Junior Championship which also marks as a qualification round for IHF Men's Junior World Championship 2017 to be hosted by Algeria.

The Asian tournament is scheduled to kick off on July 21 in the Jordanian capital and will come to an end on August 01.

Iran has been seeded in Group A of the Asian championship together with Uzbekistan and Jordan while Group B comprises Japan, Saudi Arabia and Palestine. Meanwhile, national teams of Korea Bahrain and India have been drawn in Group C as well as the Qatar, Iraq and China are placed in Group D.

The Iranian outfit will play the opening fixture of the sportive event against host Jordan on Friday evening while their second encounter will be on July 24 against Uzbekistani rivals.

So far in the history of the competition, Iranian junior handball players have won one title as well as two silver medals.
