In their final fixture at Davis Cup tennis tournament, the Iranian squad prevailed over Syria to get promoted to Asia/Oceania Zone Group II in 2017.
Competing in the Singles section, Iran’s Anoosha Shahgholi hammered Amer Naow of Syria 3-0 and due to Shahin Khaledan’s loss to Syria’s Kareem Allaf, the two teams reached a tie in the play-off round.
Later in the Doubles round, the Iranian outfit comprised Anoosha Shahgholi and Amirvala Madanchi who came out victories 2-0 finding their way to Zone Group II for the next year.
The competitions lasted about nine hours with Iran and Hong Kong being promoted to Asia/Oceania Zone Group II while Syria, Lebanon, Turkmenistan, Qatar and Pacific Oceania remained in Group III as well as that Cambodia and Singapore were relegated to Group IV.
The event was held in round-robin format with attendance of nine Asian team who had been drawn into two pools.
Pool A consisted of Iran, Hong Kong, Pacific Oceania and Turkmenistan while national tennis teams of Lebanon, Syria, Qatar, Cambodia and Singapore were placed in Pool B of the tournament.
Anoosha Shahgholim, Shahin Khaledan, Amirvala Madanchi as well as Mohammad Karegaran were playing for the Iranian team.
The 2016 Asia/Oceania Zone Group II Tie of Davis Cup was held on clay surface from 11-16 July in Enghelab Sports Complex located in the Iranian capital of Tehran.
