TEHRAN, Jul. 16 (MNA) – Political and Security Deputy of Provincial Governor of West Azerbaijan Alireza Radfar said that in the wake of the attempted coup in Turkey, West Azerbaijan border terminals are temporarily closed since early hours of Saturday.

Speaking to Mehr News in an exclusive interview on Saturday, Radfar described the latest developments in West Azerbaijan border terminals following last night’s crisis in Turkey.

“Since West Azerbaijan is the only Iranian province sharing a 312-mile border with Turkey, we immediately took the necessary measures from the first minutes of the announcement of the coup in Turkey,” Radfar noted.

He added that following an attempted coup by a section of Turkey’s Army last night, Iran’s military and security forces are on high alert at the borders, scanning ground as well as aerial surveillance by military fighters.

He said that according to Turkish officials, the coup is suppressed and "we hope border terminals resume activities as soon as possible."
