Iran's Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani, who arrived in Moscow on Monday, made consultations with Russian authorities about the latest situation in Syria, the region as well as about bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting between Shamkhani and the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, the two sides discussed issues of interest including recent developments in Syria as well as bilateral coordination to solve the Middle Eastern country’s crisis.
Shamkhani, who is the senior coordinator for political, military and security affairs with Syria and Russia, also met with his Russian counterpart Nikolai Patrushev reviewing regional issues as well as venues for collaboration between the Iranian and Russian security councils.
The Iranian official’s meeting with the Russian president’s special envoy for the Middle East Alexander Lavrentyev revolved around the current situation and prospects of political conditions in Syria as well as ways to deal with the ongoing crisis.
Following his meetings and before leaving Moscow, Ali Shamkhani said “the negotiations dealt with issues of interest including regional and bilateral security cooperation, investigation of terrorism in the region, the situation in Syria as well as continued consultation between Iran’s SNSC and Russian Security Council.”
Iran, Russia and Syria have agreed to step up cooperation in their fight against Takfiri terrorists in the region.
