TEHRAN, Jun. 25 (MNA) – Iranian representatives will compete at the the XXVI Kosanov Memorial Tournament in Almaty in an attempt to increase the country’s Rio Olympic quotas.

The major International Tournament (Kosanov Memorial) kicked off today in the Kazakh capital while the national Iranian athletics team had departed for Almighty on Firday.

Iran’s squad present at the two-day event comprises Reza Moghadam (hammer throw), Maryam Tousi and Ali Khadivar (200m sprint), Reza Ghasemi (100m & 200m), Sajjad Hashemi (400m), Mostafa Ebrahimi and Sajad Moradi (800m), Keyvan Ghanbarzadeh and Mohammadreza Vazifehdoost (high jump), Mohammad Arzandeh and Sobhan Taherkhani (long jump), Mohammad and Mahmoud Samimi (discus throw) as well as Leila Rajabi (shot put).

Athletics practitioners of Iran have so far secured seven places at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games while more berths can be added after meeting the qualification mark at XXVI International Meeting G. Kosanov Memorial in Almaty of Kazakhstan on June 25 and 26, 2016.
