TEHRAN, Jun. 13 (MNA) – Iran’s national athletics team managed to win 6 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals at International Athletics Competitions held in Turkey.

Despite securing 17 medals at the international tournament, Iranian athletes failed to secure places at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

In Women’s 200m, Iran’s Maryam Tousi clocked 24.11 seconds to win the silver medal while the event’s title was won by the Ukrainian runner with a record of 23.59 seconds.

Also in 4 × 100 metres relay, the Turkish outfit clinched gold clocking 38.31 seconds followed by Romania (39.60 seconds) and Iran (39.84 seconds) who scooped silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Mohammad Arzandeh of Iran stood on the top podium of long jump event with a record of 7.85 meters.

The Turkish jumper stood in the second place with 7.78 meters while Iran’s other representative Sobhan Taherkhani bagged the bronze medal after jumping for 7.56 meters.

In shot put, Iran’s Ali Samari won the gold medal with a record of 18.92 meters while the second and third spots were taken by Turkish throwers.

Omid Taji of Iran, competing in javelin throw event, secured gold medal with a record of 76.12 meters while the Romanian athlete finished second.

The bronze medal of Javelin throw was received by Iran’s Yousef Yousefvand for a throw of 67.37 meters.

In triple jump, Romanian jumpers finished first and second while Iran’s Vahid Sedigh stood on the bronze podium with a record of 15.79 meters followed by Milad Darisavi who only managed to land fourth.

Shahrouz Baniadam of Iran finished third in the pole vault while the gold and silver medals were begged by Turkish jumpers.

Iranian runners at 200m sprint, Ali Khadivar and Reza Ghasemi, only managed to land sixth and eight.

The Iranian squad had received three gold, three silver and two bronze medals on the first day of the tournament.
