Executive Director for International Affairs at National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Seyyed Mohsen Ghamsari referred to the resumption of Iranian crude sales to Royal Dutch Shell Oil industry company saying “talks with the Anglo-Dutch multinational oil and gas company are still underway in order to seal long-term deals for crude oil sales and exports.”
The official reiterated that no long-term agreement has been signed with Shell; “over the past few months and following the removal of sanctions, only one oil shipment has been sold to Royal Dutch Shell within the framework of spot contracts.”
Ghamsari emphasized that ongoing negotiations with Shell over sealing a final long-term accord will soon reach conclusion adding “on the basis of the spot contract, the Anglo-Dutch company will receive its crude oil shipment in July.”
he went on to add that "also, talks with BP PLC (formerly British Petroleum) are still ongoing though no final accord has been reached."
Based on recent shipping data released by Reuters, Royal Dutch Shell has resumed purchases of Iranian crude for the company to become the second major oil firm after Total to resume trade with Iran after the removal of sanctions.
Shell has plans to import 130,000 tons of Iranian crude from Kharg Island on 8 July to continental Europe with the destination being Rotterdam of the Netherlands.
Iran’s NIOC had earlier subjected new orders by Shell to clearing its debts for previous purchases and it was in April that the Iranian company confirmed clearance of the 1.7-billion-dollar debt by the Anglo-Dutch company.
