Masoud Ziarati described at a press conference the latest status of receiving compensation from a British insurance company for one of South Pars gas rigs; “in March 2015, despite the existence of warning signs on the platform of South Pars Phase 13, a Norwegian oil tanker collided with the platform.”
The official stressed that the base platform was destroyed as a result of the collision bringing about the possibility of gas eruption or leak from the drilled wells; “following the incident, gas wells of the platform were harnessed and more than 35 thousand hours of engineering studies were conducted," he underlined.
The member of the Iranian Drilling Industry Association said upon the completion of engineering studies, more than 40 thousand hours of operation was carried out to control the platform’s offshore wells; “ultimately in late March, 2016, full safety of Phase 13 wells was provided by Iranian experts without any environmental pollution."
Emphasizing that the representatives of the British insurer were present during the entire process if immunization and control of gas wells in South Pars Phase 13, Ziarati noted “accordingly, all phases of naval operation and administrative control of gas wells have been approved by the British agency."
The official pointed to the payment of $ 45 million dollars to Iran in compensation by the insurance company recalling “on the basis of the existing documents, the British company has confirmed the inadvertence of the incident."
Ziarati estimated that the operations of debris collection, reconstruction and installation of Phase 13 of South Pars will be accomplished in a duration of approximately 1.5 years with an investment of between 200 to 250 million dollars.
