TEHRAN, Apr. 03 (MNA) – Chairman of Iran-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship Group said the two countries will increase cooperation to establish a joint Oriental Studies university in the near future.

Ali Asghar Rostami, Rector of Payame Noor University, held a meeting with Gubaz Sanikidze, the Head of the Iran-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship Group, as well as Shalva Kiknavelidze, the Deputy-Chair of Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee.

During the talks, Rostami stressed the need for expansion of academic ties with Georgia, and deemed the signing of a joint MoU between Iran’s Payame Noor University and Georgia’s University a new chapter in Tehran-Tbilisi scientific-academic relations.

Sanikidze, for his part, noted the high educational level, good university structure and the international values of the Islamic Republic’s scientific achievements, expressing readiness for supporting any mutual cooperation with Iranian universities.

He further expressed hope that the continuation of cooperation between the two countries would soon lead to the establishment of a joint Iran-Georgia Oriental Studies university.
