NEW YORK, Mar. 19 (MNA) – The special envoy of the United Nations for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, pointed out today that the dialogue between the government and the opponents in Geneva would be centered next week in reaching a minimal consensus platform.

"We hope to construct this platform, not only with the beginning for the process, but with elements helping to understand the political transition better", he told journalists, after concluding meetings in the head office of the United Nations of the Swiss city, with the parts involved in the peace negotiations.

According with the official in charge of coming up between the government and the opposition, the concrete way of going out of the conflict will predominate in the conversations in April, when they are resumed after the recess to take next week, to facilitate the actors an advice period.

On Monday de Mistura started in Geneva the dialogue directed to solve the crisis in Syria, where the change of regime promoted by western nations and its regional Allied Forces has plunged to the nation in five years of hostilities, to which the UN attributes more than 250,000 dead persons and 11 million displaced and refugees.

The conversations are going on the base of the Resolution 2254 of the Security Council, adopted in December, an initiative promoted by Russia and the United States, which includes the negotiations and a ceasefire as steps before the celebration of elections, starting from a new Constitution.

One of the thorniest points, constitutes the topic of the transition of the process, considering the antagonistic position of the parts.

The opposition and those who support it, advocate the exclusion of Syrian President Bashar al Assad of the future political arena of the country, position that Damascus considers to be opposite to its sovereignty, independence and self-determination, intentions and principles in the UN Chart.

De Mistura recognized the difficulties of the conversations, considering the distance between the government and the opponents, who forced him to impel in Geneva a few approach conversations, because the actors do not want to sit down in the same table.

For the special envoy, the next negotiations rounds must lead to concrete results for the political solution of the conflict.

The people in the area are not waiting for another thing, five years of suffering are quite enough, he concluded.
