TEHRAN, Mar. 10 (MNA) – After meeting his Italian ex-counterpart, former Iranian FM Velayati told the reporters that the potential of Iran-Europe relations is positive.

We discussed the latest regional and international developments with emphasis on the resistance axis and examinations made on the issues and consequences of the ME events on the whole world, Ali Akbar Velayati told reporters after meeting with former Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema on Wednesday.

Expressing optimism on the prospect of Iran-Europe relations, the Iranian veteran diplomat, who chairs the Center for Strategic Research of Iran's Expediency Council, hypothesized that Europe is making a distinction between its own policies and those of the US in terms of dealing with the west of Asia and the north of Africa.

"This hypothesis can be proved as numerous European delegations of officials or researchers have been visiting Iran over the past few months," said Velayati adding that the Europeans have come to the conclusion that Iran is the mightiest and most-stabilized country of the region with constructive role in regional and international security.

When asked if he was invited to Europe for more talks, Velayati confirmed that he was invited by Massimo D'Alema to participate in the meetings of FEPS in Brussels. However, Velayati postponed planning for the trip to a later time.

Since 30 June 2010 D'Alema has been the president of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) which is the political foundation of the Party of European Socialists.
