Increasing the efficiency of electricity-generator stations and improving the high-voltage transmission lines are the major areas of Iran-Ukraine bilateral cooperation on electricity, said Iranian Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian on Tuesday in Tehran.
The official made the remark during his meeting with visiting Ukranian officials, Volodymyr Demchyshyn, Ukraine's Minister of Energy and Coal Industry, and Hennadii Zubko who is both Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities.
Chitchian recounted that the more of the collaboration would be on repowering thermal power plants, constructing the steam section of the Iranian plants, and enhancing the voltage level of the transmission lines from 400 to 765 Kilowatts.
On manufacturing transformers, good agreements were reached and Iranian manufacturer are to provide the Ukrainian companies with their high-quality products, said the Iranian official after being questioned about the prospect of cooperation between the companies of the two countries.
Chitchian also referred to the plant parts needed in Ukraine which are manufactured in Iran and voiced the readiness of the Iranian industries to meet the needs of the Ukrainian plants.
Financing projects, converting fossil-fuel power plants into combined cycle power plants which enjoy a higher overall net efficiency, modernizing the plants, and constructing new ones are the other aspects of the bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Kiev, reassured the Iranian energy minister.
Volodymyr Demchyshyn, Ukraine's Minister of Energy and Coal Industry, for his part in the same meeting, voiced hope that Ukraine would fill the void of 12 years absence in Iranian industries. ‘We are here to reinitiate the energy ties we had with Iran and to compensate for all those 12 years of stoppage,’ reaffirmed the Ukrainian minister.
The other Ukrainian official in the meeting, Hennadii Zubko also hailed the expansion of engineering cooperation and underlined the importance of economic interactions to be strengthened afterward in areas of oil, gas, agriculture, energy and infrastructures.
The two Ukranian officials, who arrived in Tehran on Monday to participate in the session of the Ukrainian-Iranian Joint Commission on trade and economic cooperation, signed a memorandum on enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries on their first day in Iran during the meeting they had with Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh.
After signing the MoU, Zubko was quoted by Ukraine's Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Utility Services' press service saying that, ‘this document will be a specific plan of actions for our countries in development of bilateral cooperation; It is very important that we have come up with a transition to the implementation of specific joint projects and cooperation.’
According to the same source he added that the sides decided to enhance cooperation in agricultural, metallurgic, mining and aviation spheres.
