Ayatollah Tabasi, the custodian of Imam Reza Holy Shrine, died Friday morning after at the age of 80 due to respiratory complications.
Three days of mourning has also been declared in the provinces of Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan.
Ayatollah Tabasi served in various posts after the 1979 Islamic Revolution and was directly appointed as the custodian of Astan Quds Razavi
by the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini. He was also a member of the Expediency Council and Assembly of Experts.
