TEHRAN, Feb. 21 (MNA) – Iran’s futsal national squad has responded to public demand on winning the championship cup of Asia after the team failed to live to the expectations soared so high with championships 6 years ago.

Iran and the hosting Uzbekistan played the final game of the competitions in Universiad Stadium of Tashkent, the capital city of the Central Asian nation. Iran succeeded to secure the cup with a 2-1 victory against the host which enjoyed the advantage of the avid fans swarming the stadium.

Uzbekistan scored first grabbing the opportunity provided by an error in part of Iran’s men. However, Iran rebounded immediately to claim the ball and change the tide with Mohammad Keshavarz and Ghodrat Bahadori scoring 2 in response to Uzbekistan’s single goal.

In the second half, hosting Uzbeks launched extensive attacks on Iran to retaliate and equalize the match. However, all attempts failed to materialize to a net position and score. In return, Iran found ample opportunities to add to its goals, but Uzbek goalkeeper aborted all chances along with Iran’s underperformance.

Iran had won the cup for the last time in 2010 when it crashed Uzbekistan 8-3 to win the title. In two last finals, Japan however managed to secure the title, with Iran ending the tournament standing in third and second places.
