TEHRAN, Feb. 20 (MNA) – Iranian representatives won one gold and one silver medal at 60 meters event of Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Qatar.

Held in Aspire Dome of Doha, the seventh Asian Indoor Athletics Championships kicked off on February 19 with Iranian Olympic runners Hassan Taftian and Reza Ghasemi bagged gold and silver medals, respectively.

In the Women’s section of the 60 metres sprint event, Iran’s Farzaneh Fasihi only managed to stand on the fifth place.

Hassan Taftian won the title of the men's in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.56 followed by silver –winner Reza Ghasemi with a time of 6.66.

In the shot put event, Iran’s Leila Rajabi gained the fourth ranking with a 15.2m performance while two Chinese athletes and had out powered her with shot puts of 18.06 and 17.44 meters with the Brunei representative winning the bronze medal with a 16.26m throw.

In the 400 meter event, Mahdi zamani failed to reach the finals while Mostafa Ebrahimi managed to secure a place in the finals of 800 meter dash.

The 7th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships began on Friday February 19 and will come to an end on February 21.
