Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Syria Staffan de Mistura discussed the latest developments in Syrian crisis and the upcoming Syrian talks in Geneva, Switzerland through a phone call.
De Mistura said that the Geneva round of talks would have on its agenda political process, ceasefire, humanitarian issues, and fighting terrorism. He highly appreciated Iran’s constructive role in helping fight terrorism and a political settlement of the crisis in Syria; “along with rival factions endorsed by Iran and Russia, warring factions endorsed by Riyadh will also arrive in Geneva to attend the conference,” he said.
Amir-Abdollahian for his part reiterated Iran’s position of supporting Syrian-Syrian dialogue; “the Syrian people will have the last word about the fate of their country in the future; we should be in alert so that no terrorists return to Syrian talks, adopting a new face and thus abusing the negotiation table,” he demanded. “Terrorism will have no place in the future of Syria and the ordinary citizens will decide."
