After finishing tied with India’s Ayonika Paul in an exciting and thrilling final round, Iranian athlete Najmeh Khedmati pocketed the 10m Air Rifle Women Gold medal at the Asia Olympic Qualifying Competition in New Delhi, India.
The Indian shooter only marked a 9.9, while Khedmati hit a 10.1, finally claiming the Gold medal bagging the first one for the Islamic Republic of Iran in the competition.
Khedmati was followed by Indian rivals Ayonika Paul and her teammate Pooja Ghatkar who completed the podium in 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.
Since Iran and India had previously earned Olympic quotas during last year’s World Cup, the slots available went to South Korea and Singapore.
The 2016 Asian Olympic Shooting Qualifying Tournament is being held in New Delhi, India between January 27 and February 3 with the participation of a total of 538 shooters representing 30 countries.
