TEHRAN, Jan. 25 (MNA) – In a meeting between Iran’s Parl. Speaker Ali Larijani and Iraqi PM Haider al-Abadi Sun. night in Baghdad, the two sides stressed their continued cooperation on combating terrorism.

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani met with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on the sidelines of the 11th session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) on Sunday and conferred on various issues including the expansion of bilateral ties, visa waiver and enabling the banking relations between the two countries.

The Iranian senior official also discussed the issues on exporting electricity to Iraq and the problems Iranian truckers face while transferring cargos to the Arab country.  

Larijani hailed the PUIC conference a success and extended his congratulations to the Iraqi prime minister over the country’s recent security and military victories against the terrorist groups.

Al-Abadi, for his part, informed Larijani on his country’s successful military measures in fighting ISIL in various parts of Iraq and hailed Iran for its help and effort for the successful inauguration of the 11th session of the PUIC conference.

The Iraqi prime minister also maintained that he would pursue the issue on visa waiver between Iran and Iraq and see to the problems of Iranian truckers.

The two sides also called for further cooperation on combating terrorism.

Larijani and al-Abadi further exchanged views on the status of Tehran-Baghdad relations following the implementation of the nuclear agreement and the removal of international sanctions against Iran, deeming the current conditions positive for expanding cooperation in all areas.

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani heading a delegation arrived in Baghdad Saturday night and addressed the 11th session of the PUIC conference on Sunday morning.

Representatives from 40 Islamic countries, excluding Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and UAE, discussed the region’s most important issues including legislation and current regional developments.

The conference wrapped up Sunday night after issuing a statement with 15 articles.
