TEHRAN, Dec. 23 (MNA) – Iranian and Chinese economics experts discussed venues of collaboration to advance the ‘one belt, one road’ plan.

Iranian and Chinese officials from both government and non-government sectors in a three-day meeting in the city of Haikou in the province of Hainan in south of China, examined several issues including Iran’s objectives in pursuing ties with China, proper grounds for mutual cooperation, Iran’s development requirements and Iran-China economic cooperation.

The initial idea of setting up a project to revive the ancient Silk Road was introduced by Chinese president in 2013 as he believed the project would potentially introduce a new and expansive market or over three billion people.

China has so far allocated 40 billion dollars to projects to revive the Silk Road both in marine and land sections.

From very old times, Iran’s geopolitical situation has given it a particular situation along the Silk Road and has encouraged China to seek Tehran’s special contribution in the project.

The Silk Road has connected Iran to China for over two thousand years, resulting in strong ties between two countries up to now.

The Chinese president has estimated that in terms of one decade after the operation of the Silk Road, the trade turnover for the countries along the path will add up a total of 2500 billion dollars.
