TEHRAN, Dec. 20 (MNA) – Iranian women’s national alish team bagged 5 medals at Belarus international tournament winning the title of the event.

Attended by Iran, the host Belarus, Ukraine, Serbia, Lithuania, Russia, Poland and Estonia, the individual competitions of alish international tournament took place on Saturday evening.

At 55kg weight category, Iran’s Yeganeh Gharib quelled the Lithuanian representative in the first round but failed to go past a rival from Belarus; eventually, she overpowered another Belarusian alish practitioner to stand on the Bronze podium.

Somayeh Heydari, Iran’s representative at 60kg weight category, prevailed over her rivals from Russia and Belarus to come first in the event.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Zahra Majdi at 65kg dropped out of the tournament after conceding a defeat against the Serbian rival.

Fighting at 70kg weight category, Ezzat Ghorbani of Iran reached the finals by subduing the Belarusian alish practitioner where she lost to the Polish wrestler to win the silver medal.

The other Iranian competitor Maryam Ahmadi at 75kg lost out to the Russian rival at the first round and managed to bag a bronze medal at the loser’s group.

Saeideh Rahimi, Iranian alish practitioner at +75kg, reached the final by downing the Ukrainian representative where she failed to breeze past the Serbian rival and scooped the silver medal.

The team competitions are scheduled to be held today on December 20 and a friendly match is also likely to take place between Iran and Belarus.
