TEHRAN, Dec. 16 (MNA) – Iranian women’s national alish team left for Belarus on Wednesday morning to attend both a joint sports camp and an international tournament in the capital city of Minsk.

Iranian alish practitioners left Tehran for Minsk to take part in the international tournament of alish hosted by the Eastern Europe country of Belarus.

In addition to the international event which will be held December 20, a sports training camp will also be held with the attendance of alish practitioners from several countries on December 16-23.

The Iranian roster consists of Yeganeh Gharbkoshte (55kg), Zahra Mhmoudi and Somayeh Heidari (60kg), Zahra Majdi (65kg), Ezzat Ghorbani (70kg), Maryam Ahmadi (75kg) as well as Saeideh Rahimi (+75kg) headed by Ana Barati, Setareh Esmaeili and Maryam Valizadeh as coaches and Shirin Shirzad as the head coach.

Alish is a sport like wrestling and judo in which athletes wear a special dress with a wide belt like that worn by judo players; the sport has a 300-year-old history in Iran and it is the most popular one in the provinces of Mazandaran, Gilan, Khuzestan and Semnan.
