PARIS, Dec. 16 (MNA) – The French aviation used for the first time Cruise missiles against the Islamic State during an operation carried out Tuesday against positions of that group in Iraq.

The French Defense Ministry said the missiles were launched at buildings, some of them reinforced, that the ISIL was using as headquarters, training centers or logistical warehouses.

The Cruise missiles are designed to carry a heavy load of conventional explosives or nuclear warheads to hundreds of kms of distance with excellent aiming.

Meanwhile, President Francois Hollande announced early this month that the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier, which is taking part in the operations against ISIL, will arrive to the Persian Gulf from the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.

The Charles de Gaulle will stay in the Gulf until March to be in charge of coordination of ships deployed in the region, according to reports.

The air and sea group accompanying the aircraft carrier was also deployed to take part in the maneuvers against the IS and its members.
